Niño Ricardo (actually: Manuel Sánchez Serrapi * 11. July 1904 in Seville ; † 14. April 1972 ) was a Spanish flamenco - guitarist and composer .

biography

Niño Ricardo learned early on from his father Ricardo Serrapí Torres to play the guitar and the metrics, rhythm ( compás ) and melody of flamenco.

His appearance began in the cafes of Seville, where he played professionally for the first time in the Salon Variedades. He was heavily influenced by the technique and the game of Ramón Montoya , Javier Molina and Manolo de Huelva. He himself influenced a whole generation of guitarists (for example Paco Peña ) through his playing and was also cited by Paco de Lucía as a source of inspiration.

He worked with the best flamenco musicians of his time, such as La Niña de los Peines ( Pastora ) and their brother Tomás Pavón , Pepe Pinto , Antonio Chacón , El Niño de Marchena , El Chocolate , Antonio Mairena , Manuel Torre and the great Sabicas , with whom he went on tour in 1949.

Oddities

The street within sight of the Plaza de San Pedro in Seville, where he lived for decades, was renamed Calle Niño Ricardo . House number 5 is the Casa del Maestro , which now houses an Andalusian-style hotel. A statue is also dedicated to him in the Alameda de Hércules district . He is buried in the San Fernando cemetery next to other personalities such as the flamenco singer Antonio Núñez Montoya aka El Chocolate .
