Ramón Montoya
Ramón Montoya Salazar (* 2. November 1880 in Madrid , † 20th July 1949 ) was a Spanish flamenco - guitarist and composer .
Coming from a Kalé family of cattle dealers, Ramón used his very first income to buy a guitar. As a teenager he began to play flamenco in cafes until he got a permanent engagement at the Café de la Marina in Madrid. There he met the guitarists Amalio Cuenca and El Cañito , who accompanied the greatest flamenco singers in Madrid and taught him the traditional rhythms and techniques of flamenco. In 1912 he met the flamenco singer Don Antonio Chacón , with whom he had worked together for decades. His playing was also influenced by the classical guitarist Francisco Tárrega and his student Miguel Llobet .
Ramón began an international career in the 1930s, which was completely new for a flamenco guitarist. From then on he played in the renowned concert halls of Europe, from France to Brussels, London and Switzerland. In traditional flamenco, the guitar played the role of supporting song and dance, but it helped the instrument to play a leading role. He gave guitar concerts as the main artist and played flamenco solo.
collaboration
He played with El Cañito , Manuel Vallejo , Pepe Marchena , Juan Breva , Niño de Marchena and La Niña de los Peines, among others .
