Order of Civil Merit (Spain)

The Civil Merit Order of Spain ( Spanish Orden del Mérito Civil ) was created in 1926 by King Alfonso XIII. donated as a civilian order of merit primarily for state employees. Today the medal is awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Particularly, merits of foreign diplomats and foreigners are honored.

history

The Order of Civil Merit was founded on June 25, 1926 by King Alfonso XIII, by royal decree, following a proposal by Prime Minister Miguel Primo de Rivera (1870–1930).

The foundation of the order was made for the purpose of honoring civil services of state officials or employees of the provinces and municipalities.

The order originally had only four levels:
Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander and Knight.

stages

The ribbon of the order is blue with a narrow white ribbon in the center. The band to the collar is an exception. It is blue with two narrow white stripes.

Today the medal is awarded in seven stages:

  • Kollane ( Collaner ).
  • Grand Cross ( Gran Cruz ).
  • Grand Officer ( Encomienda de Número ).
  • Commander ( Encomienda ).
  • Officer ( Cruz de Oficial ).
  • Knight ( Cruz ).
  • Silver Cross ( Cruz de Plata ).
