history

The song was written by Winehouse himself and produced by Mark Ronson . It is about her refusal to go to a rehabilitation clinic after being encouraged to do so by her record label and by her father. Winehouse said in an interview: “It was my old management's idea to stick me in rehab but I'm not with them anymore and there's not much cause for me to go to rehab now. (...) When it was suggested to me, I went to see the guy at the center for 10 minutes just so I could say to the record company that I went. ”She later changed management.

In the text, "Ray" ( Ray Charles ) and "Mr. Hathaway “( Donny Hathaway ) mentioned. Sometimes Winehouse sang "Blake" instead of Ray, alluding to her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil.

Music video

The music video was shot with Phil Griffin and released in September 2006. It shows Winehouse's band playing in an apartment in pajamas. In the course of the second stanza, the singer can also be seen sitting in the practice of a psychiatrist , who, however, cannot be seen himself. At the end you can see Winehouse in the tiled room of a clinic, her band around. The video was nominated for "Video of the Year" at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards . The video was first shown on May 31, 2007 on Total Request Live .
