Regina Belle
Regina Edna Belle (* 17th July 1963 in Englewood ) is an American Soul - and Gospel - singer . For the biggest hit of her career, the US number one hit A Whole New World in a duet with Peabo Bryson , she received a Grammy in 1993 .
biography
Belle gained singing experience with gospel music at a very young age, but soon afterwards began to become enthusiastic about rhythm and blues . At the age of twelve she won a singing competition at her school with a cover of the Emotions song Don't Ask My Neighbors . She also took lessons in trombone , tuba and steel drums . She later attended Rutger's University, where she studied jazz and opera .
The New York radio DJ Vaughn Harper became aware of Regina Belle and put them to Manhattan before, after which began the singer to play the opening act of the band. In 1986 Bobby Womack produced the single Where Did We Go Wrong , a duet by Belle and the Manhattans.
In 1987 Belle got a record deal with Columbia Records and in the same year her debut album All by Myself was released . Show Me the Way was initially released as a single , which made it to number 2 on the R&B charts. So Many Tears narrowly failed to make it into the Top 10. In 1989, Belle's second album Stay with Me was released, which contained the hit singles Baby Come to Me , Make It Like It Was , This Is Love and What Goes Around .
In 1993 A Whole New World , a duet by Belle and Peabo Bryson from the Walt Disney film Aladdin , received a Grammy in the category "Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" and in the same year Passion , Belle's third album, was released . Later followed Reachin 'Back , Believe in Me , This Is Regina! and Lazy Afternoon . Belle has been nominated for a Grammy five times.
Since her 2008 album Love Forever Shines , Belle has devoted herself increasingly to gospel music. Since then, two more albums in this style have been created, the last one in 2016, The Day Life Began .
