Life

Osborne is the youngest of 12 children in a musical family. He has five brothers and six sisters, some of whom have followed him into the music business. His brother Billy was also with LTD. Osborne's father, Clarence “Legs” Osborne, was a great trumpeter who played with Lionel Hampton , Count Basie and Duke Ellington .

Osborne started his music career in 1969 with a band called Love Men Ltd., which later got the abbreviation LTD. The band recorded hits like Love Ballad (1976), Everytime I Turn Around (Back in Love Again) (1977) and Holding on (When Love Is Gone) (1978). All of these titles were number one on the American R&B charts. At first Osborne was just the group's drummer, later he also took on the lead vocal. From 1980 he started his solo career.

In 1982 Osborne released his named debut album on A&M , which includes his first two hit singles, On the Wings of Love and I Really Don't Need No Light . In total, Osborne has had 25 hits on the R&B charts to date. In the standard work Top R&B Singles 1942–1995 , he is listed as 19th among the most successful artists of the 1980s. Other successful hits were Don't You Get So Mad , Stay with Me Tonight (1983), The Last Time I Made Love (1984, with Joyce Kennedy ), You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song) (1986), Love Power (1987, with Dionne Warwick ), She's on the Left (1988, his only number one hit as a soloist on the R&B charts), and Only Human (1990). His albums from 1983-86 were each awarded gold for 500,000 units sold. He also received three Grammy nominations during those years. Another followed in 2001.
