Moshe Kahn
Moshe Kahn (born 1942 in Düsseldorf ) is a German translator from English, French and mainly from Italian.
Life
Moshe Kahn's parents fled with him to Switzerland from the German persecution of the Jews during the Second World War . Kahn studied ancient oriental studies, philosophy and rabbinical theology in Germany, Italy and Israel and received his doctorate in ancient oriental studies. Kahn worked temporarily as an assistant director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf , in films with Luchino Visconti in Italy, as a lecturer for Hebrew and German in Rome and Catania . In 1973 he founded a documentary production with Victor von Hagen .
In 1976, together with Marcella Bagnasco, Kahn published the first translation of Paul Celan's poems into Italian. In 1987 he began translating Italian literature into German. In 2014 he completed his eight-year translation work on the novel " Horcynus Orca " by Stefano D'Arrigo , for which he received both the German-Italian Translation Prize and the Jane Scatcherd Prize in 2015 . In 2015, Kahn was also awarded the Paul Celan Prize for his life's work .
Kahn lives in Alsace , Morocco and most recently in Berlin.
