The magazine Italian was launched in 1979 by Arno Euler and Salvatore A. Sanna . She publishes articles on Italian literature (mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries), language, cultural studies and didactics . It is aimed at university professors, teachers, students and anyone interested in Italy and its culture .

Italian is published every six months in May and November. Until the end of 2012, the publisher was responsible for German-Italian studies at Friedrich Verlag ; on January 1, 2013, Narr Francke Attempto from Tübingen took over the magazine. It is funded by the Frankfurt Foundation for German-Italian Studies and the German-Italian Association eV in Frankfurt am Main and is the organ of the German Italianist Association. Italian is published in 2013 in the 35th year and is by Marc Föcking, Thomas Krefeld, Salvatore A. Sanna and Rainer Stillers.

Content

The “Biblioteca poetica” series presents Italian poetry in German translation. The "Language Corner Italian" is a forum for new developments in contemporary Italian. In the section “On the Practice of Italian Lessons”, suggestions for lessons are published with concrete examples. Book reviews and short reviews on literature, linguistics and didactics, as well as a list of "Italian topics" at universities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are further topics of the magazine.
