Marion Fellows

Marion Fellows (born May 5, 1949 ) is a Scottish politician of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Fellows studied finance and accounting at Edinburgh's Heriot-Watt University . She then worked in this field in both the private and public sectors. She then taught economics at West Lothian College for 19 years . She has lived in Wishaw and Bellshill for over 40 years . She is a member of the EIS teachers' union .

Political career

In 2012, Wishaw District Fellows was elected to the North Lanarkshire Regional Council for the SNP . In the run-up to the Scottish independence referendum in 2014 , she was one of the key people in the pro campaign in Wishaw.

In the UK general election in 2010 , Fellows ran for the SNP in their home constituency, Motherwell and Wishaw . On election day, however, she was unable to prevail against Labor MP Frank Roy , who had represented the constituency in the British House of Commons since 1997 . With the massive gains in votes by the SNP in the subsequent general election in 2015 , Fellows won a majority of 56.5% and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There she is Whip of the SNP parliamentary group and a member of the education committee. With a loss of votes, Fellows narrowly maintained their mandate in the early general election in 2017 .
