Frank Roy

Frank Roy (born August 29, 1958 in Motherwell ) is a Scottish politician .

Life

Roy was born in Motherwell in 1958. He has been married since 1977, has two children and is a multiple grandfather.

Roy attended Cathedral Primary School , St Brendan's Primary School , St Joseph's High School, and Our Lady's High School . He earned a Higher National Certificate with Honors from Motherwell College and then moved to Glasgow Caledonian University for a degree in Consumer and Management Studies .

He worked as a steel worker in the Ravenscraig Steelworks until the plant was closed in 1992 . He is a member of the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation .

Political career

In 1979 Roy joined the Labor Party . In the general election in 1987 and 1992 , he worked as an election campaign assistant for Labor politician Jeremy Bray . Between 1994 and 1997 he was then personal assistant to the House of Commons Helen Liddell .

For the first time, Roy appeared in the 1997 general election to national elections. He ran in the newly created constituency Motherwell and Wishaw and won its mandate with a 57.4% share of the vote. In the following elections in 2001 , 2005 and 2010 , Roy held his mandate safe until he left the House of Commons after massive loss of votes in the 2015 general election . The mandate went to the SNP candidate Marion Fellows . In 2010, Roy was briefly Whip the Labor Group in Parliament.
