Jeremy Bray (born June 29, 1930 - May 31, 2002 ) was a British politician .

Political career

After the conservative Jocelyn Simon , who had represented the constituency of Middlesbrough West in the British House of Commons since 1951 , had accepted a high judicial office, he gave up his mandate. The Labor Party sent Bray into the running for the due by-elections . Although the Conservatives had clearly won the previous election, Bray prevailed against his opponents and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the following elections in 1964 and 1966 , he held his mandate. In the first term, Bray served as Parliamentary Private Secretary , while in the second term he held a position as Parliamentary Secretary . With a difference of only 388 votes, Bray defeated the Conservative John Sutcliffe in the 1970 general election and left the British House of Commons.

In the October 1974 general election , Bray ran for the constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw . Brays party colleague George Lawson had won his mandate in the previous general election in February 1974 , but did not run for these elections. Bray won the mandate safely and moved into the House of Commons a second time. In the following general election in 1979 , he defended his mandate.

In the course of constituency reform in the run-up to the general election in 1983 , the constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw was dissolved. Bray ran in the constituency of Motherwell South , in which large parts of the disbanded constituency were accepted. He won the mandate clearly and defended it safely in the subsequent elections in 1987 and 1992 . Unexpectedly, Bray did not stand in the 1997 general election and left parliament. After the constituency of Motherwell South was dissolved in the course of the constituency reform, no direct successor can be determined. A total of 2707 contributions by Bray are recorded in Parliament.
