George Lawson ( July 11, 1906 - July 3, 1978 ) was a British politician .

Political career

After Labor politician Alexander Anderson , who had represented Motherwell's constituency in the British House of Commons since 1945 , died in 1954, by-elections were necessary in the constituency. To these the Labor Party put George Lawson on. Lawson clearly prevailed against the unionist Sloan and the communist John Gollan and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. In the following general election in 1955 and 1959 , he defended his mandate. In the latter term, Lawson held the office of Lord Commissioner of the Treasury .

In the 1964 and 1966 elections , Lawson held his mandate safe. From 1966 to 1967 he was employed as deputy whip of the Labor Group. After Lawson defended his mandate again in the 1970 general election , his Motherwell constituency was dissolved in the run-up to the February 1974 election . Then Lawson ran in the successor constituency of Motherwell and Wishaw , whose mandate he won. At the general election in October 1974 Lawson has not raced for more. His party colleague Jeremy Bray won the mandate .
