The Khartse (also Kartse ) is a 6507 m (according to other data 6496 m ) high peak in the Himalayas in the district of Dingri of the Shigatse administrative district in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China 9.18 km east-northeast of Mount Everest .
The Khartse is a pyramid-shaped peak in a mountain ridge that branches off from Lhakpa Ri ( 7045 m ) to the east. Lhakpa Ri is at a distance of 3.41 km. Due to a notch height of around 350 m, the Khartse is not considered an independent mountain. To the east of the Khartse is the Karpo La saddle ( 6050 m ). Beyond this, the ridge continues to the east. On the southern flank of the Khartse, the Kangshung glacier flows eastwards, while on its northern flank the Kharta glacier also flows eastwards.
Ascent history
The first ascent of the Khartse was made by George Mallory with a Sherpa on August 7, 1921 during his exploration expedition in 1921 .
The possibly second ascent of Khartse was made by Stephen Venables and George Lowe in October 1981.
