John Lement Bacon

John Lement Bacon (born June 18, 1862 in Chelsea , Vermont , † April 27, 1909 in Hartford , Vermont) was an American banker and politician who was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1898 to 1906 .

Life

John L. Bacon was born in Chelsea, Vermont, to John B. Bacon and Sarah Persis (Morey) Bacon. He attended the Chelsea Academy and the Saint Johnsbury Academy , which he finished in 1881. He then worked for three years at the First National Bank of Chelsea , where his father was president of the bank. In 1886 he moved to White River Junction and helped found the National Bank as a cashier.

As a member of the Republican Party , he was Treasurer of Orange County from 1884 to 1885, Treasurer of Hartford Town from 1891 to 1889, Member of the House of Representatives of Vermont from 1892 to 1908 and Treasurer of Vermont from 1898 to 1906. He was a delegate at several Republican Party meetings, both at the county and state levels.

Bacon was a member of the Congregational Church and a Freemason . He was a member of the Templars, the Shriners and the Odd Fellows .

He married Lizzie (Elizabeth P.) Davis (1862-1953) in 1888, the couple had two daughters and a son. Bacon died in Hartford on April 27, 1909. His grave is in Hartford Cemetery.
