Beth Pearce

Beth Pearce , actually Elisabeth A. Pearce (* around 1953 in West Springfield , Massachusetts ), is an American politician and acting State Treasurer of Vermont.

Life

Beth Pearce was born in West Springfield, Massachusetts. She and her twin sister are the oldest of five siblings. Pearce comes from a politically active family. Her grandmother actively fought for women's suffrage, her father was a member of the Select Board and the School Board and ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 1960. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire . She was Deputy Treasurer for Cash Management in Massachusetts from 1999 to 2003 and worked in the municipal offices of Greenburg , New York and West Hartford Connecticut .

Since 2003, Pearce has been Deputy Treasurer of Vermont and was named State Treasurer of Vermont by Governor Peter Shumlin in 2011 to succeed Jeb Spaulding . She won re-election the following year as a member of the Democratic Party against Republican candidate Wendy Wilton with 52.3%. It was re-elected in 2014 with 74.5%.

She was vice president of the National Association of State Treasurers and served on the executive committee of the National Association of State Auditors, Comptrollers, and Treasurers . She was also President of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators .

Pearce lives in Barre . She is divorced, has two children and three grandchildren.
