Peter J. Hincks

Peter Joseph Hincks (born July 3, 1883 in West Rutland , Vermont , † July 29, 1968 in Middlebury , Vermont) was an American bank manager and politician who was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1965 to 1968 .

Life

Peter Joseph Hincks was born in West Rutland. He attended Proctor School and Rutland Business College. In 1924 he began working for the National Bank of Middlebury , for which he worked for 52 years. He was a cashier and a member of the bank's board of directors.

As a member of the Democratic Party , he was a delegate to the meetings of the Democratic Party of Vermont in 1936. He also ran unsuccessfully against Thomas H. Cave in 1938 and 1940 and against Levi R. Kelley in 1942, 1944 and 1946 in 1950 and 1962 against George H. Amidon , before defeating him in 1964 and being re-elected in 1966. He died of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm while attending a trade fair. He had planned to run for office again.

Peter J. Hincks was married to Elisabeth C. Hincks. The couple had a son and three daughters. Hincks' grave is in Saint Marys Cemetery in Middlebury.
