Levi R. Kelley

Levi Ray Kelley (born January 26, 1899 in Malone , New York , † February 14, 1967 Waterbury , Vermont ) was an American politician who was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1943 to 1949 and then Treasurer of the University of Vermont .

Life

Levi R. Kelley was born in Malone, New York in 1899. In 1902 the family moved to Montpelier , Vermont, where he grew up. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1917 and joined the United States Army that same year . After retiring from the Army, he worked for the Montpelier and Wells River Railroad .

As a member of the Republican Party he was from 1924 employee in the office of the State Treasurer of Vermont, was appointed Deputy Treasurer of Vermont in 1931 and was elected Treasurer of Vermont in 1942. He held this office from 1943 to 1949. From this position he resigned in 1949 to take over the office of Treasurer of the University of Vermont.

Levi R. Kelley was married to Ruth Marie Emery (1902–1990). He died on February 14, 1967. His grave is in the Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier.
