George Howes

George Howes (born November 14, 1814 in Montpelier , Vermont ; † January 30, 1892 ) was an American politician who was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1847 to 1853 .

Life

George Howes was born to Joseph Howes (1783–1863) and Martha Patty Wilder (1786–1871) in Montpelier, Vermont. He was the cashier of the Montpelier National Bank .

As a member of the Whig Party , Howes was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1847 to 1853. Howes held other public offices in Montpelier. He was one of the Agents for Paying Pensions and President of the Bank of Montpelier .

George Howes was married to Helen H. Holmes Howes (1841-1897). He died on January 30, 1892 in Montpelier. His grave is in the Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier.
