Henry Francis Field

Henry Francis Field (born October 8, 1843 in Brandon , Vermont , † 1932 ibid) was an American bank manager and politician who was State Treasurer of Vermont from 1882 to 1890 .

Life

Hanry Francis Field was born in Brandon, Vermont to William M. and Minerva Davenport Field. He was descended from Zechariah Field, who settled in Connecticut in 1639 . He attended local schools and the Brandon seminary. At the age of seventeen he took up a position as a cashier at Brandon Bank . He stayed there for more than a year and in March 1862 he moved to Rutland , where he accepted a position in the office of John B. Page , who was then Treasurer of Vermont.

In 1864 he was appointed Treasurer of the Bank of Rutland , immediately after the Bank of Rutland was reorganized and converted into a national bank , and three years later he was elected to the Rutland County National Bank's cashiership . He held this position for several decades. He was director of the bank for several years. Field was a member and deacon of the Rutland Congregational Church . He was also associated with the church's Sunday School for many years either as superintendent or as assistant to the superintendent.

Henry F. Field held various offices as a member of the Republican Party , he was treasurer of Rutland City and the town of Rutland as well as the school district and the county for ten years . In 1861 he was Deputy Secretary of State . He was elected to the Vermont Senate in 1884 for Rutland . There he was chairman of the banking committee. He was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1888, where he was also chairman of the banking committee. He was elected State Treasurer of Vermont in 1890 and re-elected in 1892.

Field married Anna Louisa Howe (1843–1913) on June 21, 1865. The couple had two sons. Field died in 1932, his grave is in Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.
