Cheap Thrills is a song by the Australian singer Sia . The single version of the song was recorded together with rapper Sean Paul .

Cheap Thrills was composed by the singer herself and Greg Kurstin . It was originally supposed to be sung by Rihanna , but she turned down the song. Sia then decided to use the song for her album This Is Acting . It was produced by Greg Kurstin and released on February 11, 2016 by the record labels Inertia, Monkey Puzzle Records and RCA Records .

Music videos

A lyric video of the version starring Sean Paul was released on February 10, 2016 . In the video, a faceless couple (played by Minn Vo and Stefanie Klausmann) with a wig that has become the singer's trademark wins a dance competition based on the American TV show American Bandstand .

On March 21, 2016, another music video was released for the song, in which Maddie Ziegler dances with two men. The dancers wear beige body suits with a black and white wig. They dance on a stage while Sia sings standing in the background. The choreography is by Ryan Heffington, it was produced by the singer and Daniel Askill.

Reviews

Cheap Thrills received mostly positive reviews. Brittany Spanos from Rolling Stone magazine called the song a "lively party anthem," which the British daily The Guardian confirmed. Nick Levine of the New Musical Express also praised the song.

Commercial success

The song had greater commercial success than Alive , Sia's previous single, and entered the top 5 of the charts in more than 25 countries. In Australia, the singer's home country, the song was sold more than 70,000 times, which is why it was awarded the platinum record there and in New Zealand (15,000 sales) . In Ireland , Cheap Thrills even reached number one on the official charts, making it Sia's first number one single in Ireland. It was also number 1 in the United States , Bulgaria , Israel , Italy , Portugal and Sweden . In the UK, the song rose to position 2, which is Sia's top chart position in the UK charts. In Germany and Austria , the song reached first place in the charts, second in Switzerland , and first in French-speaking Switzerland (Romandie). In Germany it is the most played song on German radio in 2016.
