España cañí
España cañí (Picturesque Spain), also España gitana , is a well-known piece of Spanish music. The Paso Doble was written in 1923 by Pascual Marquina Narro (1873-1948). The first recording took place in 1926 with the chapel of the Regiment Ingenieros de Madrid. In 1927 the piece was recorded by the Regal Chapel and the Regimiento de Badajoz N.º 73 . In 1928, the Encarnación López Júlvez (1895–1945), known as La Argentinita, followed with a version with castanets and stamping. Rondalla Usandizaga recorded it with Victor Recordings in 1929 . In 1931 the House of Odeón published a version texted by Alfredo Corral Moraleda and sung by Marcos Redondo , which was accompanied by the Odeón chapel and the conductor Antonio Capdevila .
The main refain consists of eight bars with an arpeggiated chord .
The music is very often used for the Paso Doble in dance tournaments , as it is well suited to creating choreographies that bring out the dance.
