Hakuna Matata is a song from the movie The Lion King . It was written by Elton John (music) and Tim Rice (text). It was sung by Nathan Lane (as Timon) and Ernie Sabella (as Pumbaa), supported by Jason Weaver and Joseph Williams (as a young and adult Simba, respectively). In the German version, the song is sung by Ilja Richter and Rainer Basedow as well as Manuel Straube and Cusch Jung .
Use in film and musical
With Hakuna Matata , Timon and Pumba teach young Simba their carefree philosophy of life ( Hakuna Matata ). The song continues to bridge the time when Simba grows up.
In the 1997 musical The Lion King , the song is used in a similar way to the film.
Awards
Hakuna Matata was nominated for an Oscar in the category of best movie song in 1995 , but lost to Can You Feel the Love Tonight , also from The Lion King .
The American Film Institute (AFI) ranked Hakuna Matata 99th in their list of the 100 best movie songs .

Jimmy Cliff released a cover version as a single with Lebo M on February 21, 1995. This single reached the German charts for seven weeks on July 24, 1995, reaching number 77. It was also in the Swiss charts for five weeks from July 16, 1995, reaching number 32.
