Erich Kunzel
Erich Kunzel (born March 21, 1935 in New York City , † September 1, 2009 in Swan's Island , Hancock County , Maine ) was an American conductor .
Short biography
Kunzel already worked as a timpanist and arranger in high school and then studied at Harvard University and Brown University . From 1960 to 1965 he led the Rhode Island Philharmonic and was chief conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for the following twelve years . Successful recordings with Dave Brubeck and Duke Ellington followed .
Since the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra appeared as the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra for Kunzel's appearances , the orchestra has enjoyed numerous international successes under his direction. Up to half a dozen commercially successful recordings were released annually.
