The song is about a brief affair between a man and a woman named Cordula Grün, whom he met while dancing. At first she claims to live separately from her husband. The next day, however, he learns that she is married to a pediatrician.

The single was released in June 2018 as a prelude to Josh's fall 2018 album. The summer hit reached number 1 on the Austrian iTunes charts and number 1 on the Ö3 listener charts. In the Austrian single charts, the song came in at number 5. In Germany, Cordula Grün reached number 27 in the German charts and was both " Wiesn Hit 2018" and "Wiesn Hit 2019". In 2019 GfK Entertainment named the piece a "Carnival Hit 2019"

The song was named Song of the Year at the Amadeus Awards 2019 .
