Zack C. Hemsey (born May 30, 1983 ) is an American composer and music producer who achieved international fame in particular for his piece of music "Mind Heist" in the third trailer of the thriller Inception .

Life

Zack Hemsey grew up in New Jersey with his older sister, Tara, a gay artist . Inspired by film music and metal , Hemsey wanted to become a film composer at an early age, which is why he studied music and philosophy at Rutgers University from 2001 to 2005 after graduating from Palisades Park Junior - Senior High School and graduated with Summa Cum Laude . During his studies he already worked as an assistant at RMI before working as a composer at the music studio The Lodge from November 2005 to August 2007 . He then went into business for himself as a composer and musician. About two years later he also ended his engagement with Nine Leaves , a hip-hop ensemble that worked with classical music, with which he worked as a composer and poet for over 10 years.

Hemsey became internationally known after his song Mind Heist was selected for the third trailer of Inception , a thriller by Christopher Nolan . After the TV series South Park parodied the song in the episode "Messie Syndrome" (Insheeption) and several trailers of other films with Mind Heist appeared on YouTube , Hemsey was surprised and grateful that his song was not only "the nerve of the." People ”, but even“ cultural effects ”. When the film composer Steve Jablonsky then used parts of Mind Heist almost identically for his own song It's Our Fight to the soundtrack of Transformers 3 , Hemsey said that at first he took it as a compliment and was proud that such a well-known film composer of his work was inspired, but then found very clear words about the alleged plagiarism.

Hemsey was also repeatedly amused by the rumor that he did not exist and was just a pseudonym of Hans Zimmer .
