Ray (magazine)

The ray Filmmagazin is a magazine for cinema and new media that appears ten times a year and is considered one of the most important Austrian film magazines. The July / August and December / January editions are double issues.

The first edition of ray appeared in April 2001. The editorial team at that time consisted of Andreas Ungerböck (editor-in-chief), Bernhard Seiter and Maya McKechneay. After the bankruptcy of the Viennese publishing house PVS Verleger in September 2005, Andreas Ungerböck and some employees decided to buy ray out of the bankruptcy estate and to continue it himself.

Since December 2005, the magazine has been published by the newly founded publishing house substance media under the editors Andreas Ungerböck and Mitko Javritchev .

Distribution in Austria is carried out by press sales Morawa , in Germany by Schüren Verlag .

In addition to the regular issues, ray Filmmagazin publishes special issues or program magazines on the following topics and events: Crossing Europe Film Festival Linz, Diagonale Graz, Viennale , International Children's Film Festival Vienna as well as various special issues on company anniversaries, etc.

ray Audience Award ( Crossing Europe )

The audience award was given to the director of a film in the European competition from 2006 to 2010.

ray Audience Award ( Vienna Independent Shorts )

The audience award was given to the director of a short film in the international competition in 2007 and 2008 and in the Austrian competition from 2009 to 2012. Since 2013 there have been three ray audience awards at Vienna Independent Shorts: in the international competitions Fiction & Documentary and Animation Avantgarde as well as in the Austrian competition.

ray Filmmagazin Documentary Award ( International Film Festival Innsbruck )

The prize, previously called the Christian Berger Documentary Film Prize, went to the director of the best documentary film in the international competition. It was only awarded in 2007.
