Christoph Schwarz (* 1981 in Vienna ) is an Austrian media artist and filmmaker .

Life

Christoph Schwarz studied visual media design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 1999 to 2006 . In 2003/2004 he spent a semester abroad at the Academy for Art, Architecture and Design in Prague .

Schwarz works in the fields of film , performance and installation . Since 2004, his work has been featured in several individual and group exhibitions in galleries. He has received several awards for his short films. Among other things, Schwarz won the main prize at the Regensburg Short Film Week (2012 for Supercargo ) and twice the audience award at Vienna Independent Shorts (2011 for Supercargo and 2015 for Beingwhale ). Other important festival participations include the Diagonale , IndieLisboa and the Sarajevo Film Festival . In 2013 he was the first artist to take part in the artist-in-residence program of the special-interest broadcaster ORF III . This resulted in his video essay The Sender Sleeps .

In his work, Christoph Schwarz often deals with problems of media reality in a humorous way .
