Pierre Tchernia (born January 29, 1928 in Paris ; † October 8, 2016 there ) was a French screenwriter , film director & producer , presenter , animator and actor .

Life

Tchernia helped create the first television news in France in 1949 and was one of the first news anchors. He was the organizer or presenter for various discussions, quizzes and music shows on French television. From 1958 to 1974 he was also a French commentator at the Eurovision Song Contest .

He was friends with René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo and wrote the scripts for four Asterix films. On July 14, 2011, he was appointed Commander of the Legion of Honor . Tchernia was amicably caricatured by Goscinny and Uderzo in several Asterix adventures. Tchernia was particularly popular in France as the creator and presenter of the Monsieur Cinéma program and its successors, Mardi Cinéma and Cinéclub . His guests included Jeanne Moreau , Gérard Depardieu , Anna Karina , Jacques Perrin , Jean Marais , Claude Jade , Stéphane Audran , Peter Ustinov , Annie Girardot , Robert Hossein , Jean-Pierre Cassel , Isabelle Adjani , Philippe Noiret , Marie-José Nat , Michel Piccoli and many others. Because of these broadcasts, he is also called Monsieur Cinéma in France .
