Françoise Bonnot
Françoise Bonnot (born August 17, 1939 in Bois-Colombes , France , † June 9, 2018 in Paris ) was a French film editor .
Life
Françoise Bonnot came from a cinema-related family. She was the daughter of the French editor Monique Bonnot , who edited several films for the director Jean-Pierre Melville . She was married to the French-Armenian director Henri Verneuil and their son Patrick Malakian is a French director. Her brother Alain Bonnot is also a director, for whom she edited A Dirty Affair in 1981 .
After assisting her mother Monique Bonnot in Two Men in Manhattan , a crime thriller by Jean-Pierre Melville, Henri Verneuil gave her the chance to independently edit the film three years later in A Monkey in Winter . For him she edited San Sebastian , Silent as the Night and The 25th Hour even under the name Françoise Bonnot-Verneuil.
She has worked with the Greek-French film director Costa-Gavras for over 30 years. Bonnot edited films for him such as Das Geständnis , Hanna K. and Mad City . With her first cut for Z , she received numerous international nominations and film awards, including the 1970 Oscar for Best Editing . In 1983 she received the BAFTA Award for Best Film Editing for the joint film Missing . She has also had a long-term collaboration with director Julie Taymor . She edited all of her feature films for Taymor, namely Titus , Frida , Across the Universe and, most recently, The Tempest .
Françoise Bonnot was a member of the American Cinema Editors .
