Delphine Seyrig
Delphine Claire Beltiane Seyrig (born April 10, 1932 in Beirut , † October 15, 1990 in Paris ) was a French actress , director and political video activist .
Life
The daughter of the archaeologist Henri Seyrig and Hermine de Saussure made her debut in 1952 in Paris at the Center dramatique de l'Est after taking acting lessons. From 1954 she played for some time on the municipal stage of Saint-Étienne , where she had success in Chekhov's The Seagull . In 1956 she went to New York and trained at the Actors Studio there. In 1958 she got her first film role in the short film Pull My Daisy . Then she returned to France.
She is best known for her leading roles in Last Year in Marienbad and Muriel or The Time of Return under the direction of Alain Resnais . Their way of acting shaped the style of the Nouvelle Vague that was now emerging . Luis Buñuel engaged her for his films The Milky Way and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie . She played for François Truffaut in Stolen Kisses . For Chantal Akerman she played in Jeanne Dielman . In addition to some English-language cinema roles for u. a. Joseph Losey and Fred Zinnemann remained loyal to Seyrig primarily the - later also German - auteur cinema .
As a director she made the films Maso et Miso vont en bateau , Scum Manifesto , Sois belle et tais-toi . She received an award at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Muriel or The Time of Return . Delphine Seyrig died of lung cancer at the age of 58 .
