César 2006
The 2006 Césars were awarded on February 25, 2006 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. In the run-up to the event, protests were accompanied by around 200 demonstrators who advocated more rights for short-term workers in the industry and delayed the start of the award gala by around 20 minutes. The actress Carole Bouquet was the president of the awards ceremony .

Jacques Audiard's film The Wilde Beat of My Heart dominated the Césars award ceremony . The drama starred with Romain Duris , had already led the field of favorites when the nominations were announced and was able to prevail in eight out of ten categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Niels Arestrup and Linh Dan Pham in the actor categories . Best leading actor was Michel Bouquet, who was able to repeat his 2002 victory for Robert Guédiguian's drama Last Days at the Elysée . The best leading actress was the French Nathalie Baye , who as an alcoholic detective for Xavier Beauvois ' also favorite police drama A fatal decision u. a. the actress and director Valérie Lemercier ( Palais Royal! ), who moderated this year's awards ceremony, was able to leave behind. For Baye it was the fourth actor award (2 × best supporting actress, 2 × best leading actress) and was able to set the record of Isabelle Adjani (4 × best leading actress) and Dominique Blanc (3 × best supporting actress, 1 × best leading actress) who also had been honored with four actor awards in the past. The Belgian Cécile de France was able to triumph as best supporting actress for her performance in Cédric Klapisch's L'auberge espagnole - Reunion in St. Petersburg . De France had already been named Best Young Actress three years earlier for the same role in the prequel L'auberge espagnole . Last year's Oscar winner Million Dollar Baby was able to prevail against the competition as best foreign film . The actors Hugh Grant and Pierre Richard were honored with the honorary award .
One of the losers of the Césars in 2006 was Christian Carion's war drama Merry Christmas . The production, which was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2006 Academy Awards and starring German actress Benno Fürmann , Diane Kruger and Daniel Brühl , was not able to prevail against the competition with six nominations in advance, as was last year's winner of the Palme d'Or in Cannes , The child , with four nominations. Michael Haneke's highly acclaimed thriller Caché , which received five European Film Awards in 2005, had already not been considered in the Best Film category and was unable to convert his four nominations into victories either.
