Jérôme Salle (* 1967 in Paris ) is a French film director and screenwriter .

Life

Jérôme Salle initially worked as a press photographer and commercial filmmaker. In 2000 he made his first short film, Le jour de grâce .

He made his feature film debut in 2005 with Anthony Zimmer . The thriller with Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal in the lead roles was nominated for a César in the category Best Debut . Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck shot a remake of the film in 2010 under the title The Tourist . In the following years Salle appeared as the director of the comic adaptations Largo Winch and Largo Winch II - The Burma Conspiracy .

In 2013, his thriller Zulu was selected as the closing film of the 66th Cannes Film Festival . The film, shot in South Africa, is based on a novel by Caryl Férey. In 2016 , Salle Jacques-Yves Cousteau created a cinematic monument with Jacques - Explorer of the Oceans .
