Hubert Sauper (* 1966 in Kitzbühel ) is an Austrian film director . He grew up in Döllach in the community of Großkirchheim and studied film at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in Vienna and in Paris . He later worked in Italy , Great Britain and the USA . Sauper has lived in France since 1994 and mainly produces documentaries . His film Darwin's Nightmare was nominated for an Oscar in 2006 in the category "Best Documentary".
