Peace Film Prize (Berlinale)

The Peace Film Prize was founded in 1986, the UN Year of Peace, by Berlin peace groups. Since then it has been an integral part of the Berlinale and is awarded annually as a special prize by an independent jury.

The Peace Film Prize is awarded in the form of a bronze sculpture and is endowed with 5000 euros. It goes to a film that places the aesthetic means of film in a special way at the service of peaceful coexistence and social commitment.

The Peace Film Prize is donated by the Peace Film Prize Initiative in conjunction with the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War , winner of the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize .

Since its inception, the prize has been supported by personalities from art, science, politics and the church, including Günter Grass , Inge and Walter Jens , Leonie Ossowski , Andreas Dresen and Otmar Alt , who designed the bronze sculpture.
