Oren Moverman (born July 4, 1966 ) is an Israeli screenwriter , film producer and film director . He was nominated for an Oscar in 2010 for his film The Messenger .

Life

Moverman grew up in Israel. He served four years as a parachutist in the military before moving to the United States to study at the age of 22 .

He initially worked as a journalist, then wrote a. a. Scripts for the films Jesus' Son with Billy Crudup and Dennis Hopper and Married Life with the actors Pierce Brosnan and Rachel McAdams . He also wrote the screenplay with Haynes for the 2007 Bob Dylan biography I'm Not There , which was filmed by director Todd Haynes with leading actors Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett .

The first film Moverman directed was the 2009 war drama The Messenger. He co-wrote the screenplay with Alessandro Camon , for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay at the 2010 Academy Awards were. The film was presented at the Sundance Film Festival and the Berlinale 2009 . At the Berlinale, the film won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay and the Peace Film Prize , and it was also nominated for the Golden Bear . The film also won the Spotlight Prize at the National Board of Review Awards and two prizes at the Deauville Film Festival, and was nominated in two categories at the Independent Spirit Awards . Other nominations for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award received Woody Harrelson as Best Supporting Actor .

In 2010 Moverman was in discussion as a director and screenwriter for a film about Kurt Cobain .

For The Dinner , the film adaptation of the novel Arranged by Herman Koch , Moverman received another invitation to the competition at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival in 2017 . Richard Gere , Laura Linney , Steve Coogan , Rebecca Hall and Chloë Sevigny play the leading roles.
