César 1981
The sixth awarding of the Césars took place on January 31, 1981 in the Palais des congrès de Paris . Singer and actor Yves Montand was president of the awards ceremony . The award ceremony, moderated by Pierre Tchernia , was broadcast by the public television channel Antenne 2, today France 2 .
With a total of twelve nominations, François Truffaut's The Last Metro was the big favorite of the evening. With ten wins, including in the important categories of Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay, the film was able to hold its own against the competition. Gérard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve won a César for Best Actor for the first time with their roles in Truffaut's film. Nathalie Baye , who was also nominated for Best Actress for a week's vacation , was ultimately named Best Supporting Actress in Jean-Luc Godard's Save Yourself, Who Can (Life) .
