Michel Ocelot (born October 27, 1943 in Villefranche-sur-Mer ) is a French animator who became internationally known in 1998 with the award-winning surprise hit Kiriku and the Sorceress , an African fairy tale.

Life

The southern French citizen Ocelot spent much of his childhood in Guinea . Of the silhouettes Lotte Reiniger inspired he wanted to make his own films. In 1982 he got his first César for the short film La Légende du pauvre bossu . Kiriku and the Sorceress , his first full-length film, won an award at the Annecy Festival d'Animation in 1999 . This was followed by a variation on the first film, Kiriku and the Wild Animals . Azur and Asmar from 2006 was Ocelot's first animated film to be made on the computer. In 2007 he made the video for Björks Earth Intruders . His latest 3D animation production Kiriku und die Männer und Frauen celebrated its German premiere in 2013 at the Stuttgart Animated Film Festival .
