César / Best Animated Short Film
Winner and nominee of the French César film award in the category of best animated short film (Meilleur court métrage d'animation) since it was first awarded in 1976. The award category has seen several upheavals. The prize was awarded as a separate category from 1977 to 1990. From 1991 to 2010 the animated short films were shown in the Best Short Film category (Meilleur court-métrage) ; In 1996, the short animation film The Monk and the Fish prevailed over other short films. From 2011 to 2013, the short animated films ran together with the long animated films in the Best Animated Film category (Meilleur film d'animation) , but did not win any awards. Since 2014, Best Animated Short Film has again been a separate award category.
The films listed are given with their German distribution title (if this can be determined), followed by the original title in the respective national language and the name of the director in brackets in italics. The original title is not mentioned if the German and original film titles are identical. The winners are highlighted first.
