Make It Soul is a 2018 French animated short film directed by Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo .

action

Chicago in the winter of 1965: Solomon Burke arrives two hours late at the Regal Theater, where he is supposed to headline . In the evening James Brown will also be on stage and sing. Both musicians meet in James Brown's dressing room and James supports Solomon in his plan to appear as King of Rock'n'Soul with a crown and cape. The fact that James Brown's musicians are already taking their seats on the stage, even though Solomon is supposed to appear first, is downplayed by James: Due to Solomon's delay, one had to agree on musicians; James' musicians also really want to be on stage with Solomon. James gives Solomon the artist's contract for the evening and he puts it away unread.

Instead of Solomon, the announcer announced James Brown shortly afterwards and he in turn announced on stage that Solomon will unfortunately not perform because he has been dethroned as King of Soul. James Brown starts his show while Solomon pulls back in frustration and demolishes James' wardrobe. An employee appears and rebukes him: He played the role that was intended for him that evening. James Brown is like a magician of music, Solomon has to recognize that and in the end James has only proven that every black person deserves his place in this world. Solomon realizes that James will be the one to start the revolution and that no one should stand in his way.

production
