In a fantasy world, people always keep the keys to their hearts hidden with them; however, if you want to be on the safe side, you deposit your heart in the safe of a bank. The young Natália is a bank clerk and processes the given hearts, which are deposited in suitcases and locked away, as heart thieves like to turn stolen hearts into money on the black market. One day a man appears at her bank and leaves a note for her. This leads her to the Private Eye bar , where Natália meets the attractive man. He tells her that although he has the key to his heart, his heart has been stolen and deposited in the bank. Natália and he go to the bank at night and get the man's heart in the suitcase. You will be haunted by shadows of the bank who want to prevent the theft of your heart, but they can shake them off. Both go to a hotel at night and spend the night together, although the man is said to have lacked his heart. Just in time, Natália realizes that the man is really trying to steal her heart and knocks him out. She escapes with his heart in her suitcase. Shortly afterwards the newspapers headlined that the heart thief was caught, but his heart was missing. Natália sells the heart on the black market and happily lights a cigarette. She hides the key to her heart safely.

Downsides was after Amélia & Duarte realized together the second short animated film, the Mónica Santos and Alice Guimaraes. Sara Costa and Gilberto Oliveira appeared again as actors. The shady sides were animated in stop-motion or pixilation . The short film combines elements of fantasy film, film noir and surrealism , and it also contains numerous film and art quotes (including works by René Magritte ).
The film was screened at various festivals including Animafest Zagreb and the Ottawa International Animation Festival . ARTE showed it for the first time on German television on June 24, 2018 as part of the program Kurzschluss .
Awards
The CinEuphoria Awards received downsides , 2019 six nominations including the categories Best Animated Film and Best Animated Short Film . Schattenseiten was nominated for a César in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2019 .
