League Cup 1988/89

The League Cup 1988/89 was the 29th edition of the English League Cup , which had existed since 1960 .

The competition started on August 29, 1988 with the first round and ended on April 9, 1989 with the final at Wembley . The title went to Nottingham Forest , who defeated the defending champions Luton Town 3-1 in the final. Nottingham won the League Cup for the third time after 1978 and 1979 .
