Garry Parker (born September 7, 1965 in Oxford ) is a retired English football player . He spent his most successful period between 1988 and 1991 at Nottingham Forest . Since July 1, 2010 he has been a member of Neil Lennon's coaching team at the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow .

Player career

Luton Town and Hull City (1983–1988)

Garry Parker began his professional career with the English first division club Luton Town , but did not earn a regular place in Luton in the following three years . On February 21, 1986, he therefore moved to the second division Hull City . Parker spent two seasons as a regular in the Football League Second Division and made it especially in 1987/88 with eight hits in thirty-four league games to attention.

Nottingham Forest (1988–1991)

On March 24, 1988 he was committed by the first division club Nottingham Forest . The club trained by Brian Clough reached third place in the table in the 1988/89 season and increased their good league placement by winning the English League Cup in 1988/89 . In the final, Garry Parker's team (22 league games / 7 goals) defeated his former club Luton Town 3-1. A year later, the team confirmed this success with a 1-0 win in the 1990 league cup final against Oldham Athletic . The team also performed successfully in the more prestigious FA Cup . After two semi-finals in 1988 and 1989 , the team moved into the FA Cup final in 1991 . On May 18, 1991, however, Garry Parker's team lost 2-1 after extra time against Tottenham Hotspur in front of 80,000 spectators at Wembley .

Aston Villa (1991-1995)

After three and a half years in Nottingham , Parker signed a contract with Aston Villa on November 29, 1991 . In the newly founded Premier League 1992/93 Parker (37 games / 9 goals) won the runner-up behind Manchester United with his team. The 1993/94 season was significantly worse for him with two goals in nineteen games. Aston Villa won the 1993/94 English League Cup with a 3-1 win against Manchester United. However, Garry Parker was not in the squad for the final game.

Leicester City (1995-2001)

On February 10, 1995, at the age of 29, he moved to Leicester City . With the promoted team he rose from the Premier League 1994/95 to the second division at the end of the season . 1996 succeeded the team after a fifth place in the regular season by a 2-1 after extra time in the play-off final against Crystal Palace the direct promotion to the first division. In the Premier League 1996/97 , the promoted team secured relegation this time in ninth place, and the team also moved into the 1997 league cup final . After a 1: 1 aet in the first game against Middlesbrough FC, Leicester won the replay 1: 0 aet and thus secured the title. He played his last league game for Leicester on January 30, 1999. 2001 he acted briefly as an interim coach before he left the club on December 21, 2001.
