Roy Common Wegerle (born March 19, 1964 in Pretoria , South Africa ) is a former football player .

With the national team of the USA he took part in the World Championships in 1994 and 1998 . Under the former national coaches of the US team Bora Milutinović (1994) and Steve Sampson (1998), he was positioned several times as a striker . Wegerle played a total of 41 international matches and scored seven goals. As a South African immigrant of Swabian-Dutch origin, Wegerle would have had the right to play for other national teams ( England , South Africa, Germany , the Netherlands ), but he decided to play for the United States' football association.

Before retiring in 1998, he was an interim coach and player for the Colorado Rapids in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the USA. He ended his active career with the Tampa Bay Mutiny .

Wegerle is now a professional golfer and co-host of a soccer sport program on American television.
