Centrate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Centrate , also called centrifugate , is the liquid that is created when solids are separated from a suspension by means of centrifuges (analogy: filtrate during filtration). Even fine solids can be separated, for example with decanter centrifuges, if the sinking speed is sufficiently high. Grain shape, grain size, density difference between solid and liquid as well as their viscosity determine the sinking speed. Under the influence of centrifugal force, solids are deposited on the outer surface. Conveyor screws convey the solids out of the liquid zone.
