action

Young Lan goes to university, her mother sells iced coffee at a small stall in Saigon . The mother regularly catches rats in the apartment and dousing them with boiling water to kill them. She buys coffee from a young man who passes the stand on a motorcycle.

When her mother is killed in an accident one day, Lan has to take care of the coffee stand alone. She doesn't want to buy new coffee from the driver, but she has to because she didn't let the seller know in time. She gives him the rest of her cash. Shortly afterwards, hitting the ice for iced coffee makes her dizzy. Later she wakes up at her booth - she fell asleep. A pot of coffee falls over; the ants pour out of a hole in the wall.

At night there is a thunderstorm over the city. The power goes out and Lan is alone in the small apartment. The dripping of the tap wakes her, a rat appears and scares her. Fireflies fill the apartment with sparse light. Lan has injured his hand and believes ants are crawling out of the wound. She cries.

The rat eventually falls into the trap. When Lan pours water over her, she dies in agony, but shortly afterwards the next rat appears. Lan hits her, but the animal escapes through the front door. Lan follows her - when the driver enters her apartment in search of her to sell her coffee, Lan kills him. The next day, Lan chops ice cream for the coffee as usual; later she sits alone at her booth and drinks an iced coffee.
