production

Fabrice Luang-Vija 2017 with the César for the best animated short film for The One with Two Souls

The one with the two souls is based on the story Celui qui a deux âmes by Néfissa Bénouniche , who wrote the script with director Fabrice Luang-Vija and also accompanies the plot as the narrator. Luang-Vija first became aware of the story as an audio book; Minor additions have been made to the film, so the widow's past is briefly discussed. Phuong Maï Nguyen created the graphic concept of the film because Luang-Vija felt his own cartoon-based style was inappropriate.

The background music for the film comes from Terje Isungset , using excerpts from his album Ice Concerts . You can also hear the song Silucian Town , sung by Terje Isungset and Lena Nymark. The one with the two souls was realized in 2D computer animation.

ARTE showed the film for the first time on German television in early April 2016 as part of the Kurzschluss series . The film was shown at the Festival d'Animation Annecy ; internationally it ran at the Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival, among others .

Awards

The one with the two souls won a César in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2017 . The film was also awarded the jury prize at the Madrid International LGBT Film Festival last year.
