from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hiroshima Kokusai Animation Festival ( Japanese 広 島 国際 ア ニ メ ー シ ョ ン フ ェ ス テ ィ バ ル , Hiroshima Kokusai animēshon fesutibaru , dt. "International Hiroshima Animation Festival ") is a film festival that has been taking place in Hiroshima since 1985 . It is one of the most important international festivals for animated films and the most important in Asia.

The festival was founded by the Association internationale du film d'animation . The Hiroshima venue was chosen for its history to promote “Thoughts of Unity” in the form of art. The festival director has been Sayoko Kinoshita since the first festival , and she was also instrumental in founding it. The first two times the festival took place on odd years (1985 and 1987), since 1990 it has taken place every two years on even years in August.

The most important section is the competition. While in 1985 around 450 films were sent in to apply for a screening at the festival, in 2006 there were over 1,700. An international jury, often made up of previous winners, awards several awards. Of these, the Grand Prix for the best short film is the most important.
