Wendy Tilby
Wendy Tilby (born March 28, 1960 in Edmonton , Canada ) is a Canadian animation filmmaker.
Life
Tilby studied fine arts and literature at the University of Victoria and then animation and film at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design , where she met Amanda Forbis . Tilby graduated in 1986 with the animation film Tables of Content , which has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix de Montreal at the Montreal World Film Festival and the award for best film debut at the Ottawa International Animation Festival . In 1987, Tilby joined the National Film Board of Canada and directed her first NFB film, Strings . Among the numerous awards for the short animation film was an Oscar nomination in the category Best Animated Short Film .
From 1995 she and Amanda Forbis devoted herself to the first joint short animated film When the Day Breaks , which premiered in 1999. When the Day Breaks received an Oscar nomination and won the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 1999 for best short film . With Amanda Forbis, Tilby created various animated advertising films, including for United Airlines ( The Meeting , The Interview ). After the release of When the Day Breaks , Tilby and Forbis also began work on the second joint short animation film Wild Life , which continued for years. They both moved from Montreal to Calgary to work on the film. Wild Life was first performed in 2011 and, like the first collaboration, received an Oscar nomination. The film was also nominated for an Annie Award and a Genie Award .
Tilby regularly leads workshops on animation topics with Forbis. She was also a lecturer in animation at Concordia University in Montreal and was a visiting professor at Harvard University from 1999 to 2001 .
