Amanda Forbis

Amanda Forbis (* 1963 in Calgary ) is a Canadian animation filmmaker.

Life

Forbis grew up in Calgary. She studied at the University of Lethbridge and until 1988 at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design , where she met Wendy Tilby . Forbis began working on the National Film Board of Canada as a senior animator on The Reluctant Deckhand . From 1995 she devoted herself to the first animated short film When the Day Breaks with Wendy Tilby , which premiered in 1999. When the Day Breaks was a huge success, received an Oscar nomination and won the Palme d'Or in Cannes in 1999 for best short film .

Forbis created various animated advertising films with Wendy Tilby, including for United Airlines ( The Meeting , The Interview ). After the release of When the Day Breaks , Forbis and Tilby also began work on the second joint short animation film Wild Life , which continued for years. They both moved from Montreal to Calgary to work on the film. Wild Life was first performed in 2011 and, like the first collaboration, received an Oscar nomination. The film was also nominated for an Annie Award and a Genie Award .
