Jagdberg Castle (Vorarlberg)
Jagdberg Castle

The castle Jagdberg is the ruins of a medieval hilltop castle in Schlins in Vorarlberg . This complex was probably built in the 12th century.

history

Jagdberg Castle served as the central castle of the Counts of Montfort- Feldkirch and Feldkirch-Tosters for the rule in the Vorderen Walgau, which became an independent part of the Feldkirch county at the end of the 13th century .

In 1397 the castle complex came to the Habsburgs and it was destroyed on September 28, 1405 during the Appenzell War by the advancing troops of the federal government above the lake .

The castle was rebuilt from 1408 - but in the years 1440 and 1499 during the Engadine War (including the Swabian, Swiss and Tyrolean Wars) the castle burned down repeatedly.

From 1559 the restoration took place.

Castle Chapel St. Michael

There are no remains of the chapel , which was demolished in 1791 and consecrated to St. Michael and built on the north side of the curtain wall .

After a village fire around 1700, in which fifteen houses burned down, there is evidence that everything that was still usable was taken from the chapel to the parish church in Schlins, which was also partially damaged.

Restoration and current use

In the years 1911, 1938 to 1941 and again from 1951 to 1953 extensive restorations took place.

The inside of the palace has been used as an open-air stage since 1949.
